Why a web site about Bodmin Moor?

For many years Dave (the Webmaster) has spent at least one of his annual holidays in Cornwall. Along with countless other travelers over the centuries, he would make a brief stop at the Jamaica Inn (at Bolventor) on Bodmin Moor before traveling on.

One day he decided to turn off the main A30, just past the  Jamaica Inn, and explore a small village called "Blisland", he was not disappointed; this started an interest in the villages that surround the Moor.

The next year he booked a holiday in a caravan just a few miles from Blisland at St Mabyn.  Over the next few years he visited all of the villages, hamlets and towns that border Bodmin  Moor. 

He started taking photographs of each of the villages, firstly  with a conventional camera then with a low resolution digital camera and started to put together a small website about the moor. 
Although at the time he thought the resulting images  acceptable, it was not until he started using a Canon A40 and a good photo editor (Adobe Photoshop CS) that he could do justice to the beautiful villages around the Moor.

At the time of writing (August  2005) he has all the (out of copyright) maps obtained and most of the photographs to start uploading an acceptable website about Bodmin Moor, that will be useful to both "Local and Family Historians". 

The Webmaster has just returned  from a  visit to Bodmin Moor to photograph more of the villages around the Moor. This time using his new Canon A85 camera. 

 Most of the material to complete the website has been obtained, but he still requires a few more internal pictures of some of the Parish Churches.
The Bodmin Moor website will be (when completed) a 'one stop shop' for anyone doing research whether local or family history about the villages around Bodmin Moor. The pages themselves may not contain the information they require, but the links should enable one to find all the information that is available on the 'World Wide Web’.

Over the last few years many requests  have been received (via eMail), asking about places to stay on or around the Moor.  With this in mind the website will, next year, have a selection of Holiday accommodation that the webmaster recommends
