The name Bolventor came from 'Bold Venture', when a group of farmers decided to establish farms on the top of Bodmin Moor.

Bolventor is not an ancient moorland Parish; it was formed out of parts of Altarnun, St Neot and Cardinham in 1848.

The Church was dedicated to 'The Holy Trinity' on 3rd July 1848.   It closed its doors in the 1990's, but the building survives and the cemetery is still in use for internments. Although the Church is in a sorry state of repair the Churchyard is well kept.

The pub, the Jamaica Inn, was made famous  by Daphne du Maurier in her book by the same name.

When the the A30 was made a dual carriageway the village was cut off from the Church.

Note by the webmaster. The village is very difficult to photograph as the number of telegraph poles and overhead wires seem to outnumber the inhabitants by 10 to 1.
